Stump Grinding and Stump Removal
At Cox Tree Service we are well equipped to handle all of your stump grinding and stump removal needs. Stumps are typically grinded at least 6 inches below grade, and unless requested otherwise, we leave stump chips for you to use as a mulch in your gardens and beds.
If you are planning on replacing the stump with sod, remove all the stump chips from the hole after grinding and backfill with a high quality topsoil to prepare the soil. Lay the sod, keep it watered, and watch it grow!
If your plan is to replace the tree or stump you are removing with another tree, we recommend planting the new tree as far from the old tree or stump as possible. Remember a tree's roots system can be massive, and because stump grinding does not remove the entire root system, it is best to offset your new tree to make it easier to dig and to ensure it will have plenty of room to grow in the soil.
Occasionally we are called in to perform a complete stump removal that includes the root system. This can only be completed with heavy equipment like a back-hoe so it is usually avoided because of the potential to damage underground utilities and paved areas.
