When is it Appropriate to Cable or Brace a Tree?
'Double' Stem Tree with Cable
Cabling and Bracing
Tree cabling, bracing, and guying is the use of hardware in a tree to provide extra support by limiting the movement of limbs.
When a tree has a structural defect or condition that poses a high risk of failure, a supplemental support system can often reduce this risk.
Cracks, weakly attached branches, and even leaning trees can be reinforced by the installation of hardware and cables. The most common need for cabling is with trees that have "double" or "multiple" stems or trunks. Cabling can help prevent trees with multiple trunks from splitting.
