Firewood, Mulch, and Delivery.
Mulch (Available Year Round)
If you do nothing else to your trees, have them mulched. Mulching retains soil moisture, provides a fresh layer of organic matter for tree roots, and reduces the competition for nutrients caused by turf grass and weeds.
Ideally, mulch should be spread 2-3 inches thick underneath the entire canopy of the tree where the feeding roots are located. Although pine straw is a favorite of Southern homeowners, it rates far below higher quality mulches that provide increased moisture retention in the soil and higher levels of nutrition to roots.
